China’s largest ultra-high voltage Yangtze River power transmission and transformation project has been put into operation.
Ligang in Jiangyin City is the south bank sub-station of the 500 kV Yangtze River power transmission project from Taizhou Fengcheng to Meili in Wuxi.
This power transmission project is expected to supply power equivalent to that of one year"s electricity consumption of a medium-sized city.
The operation of this power transmission project can provide strong guarantee for summer power supply in the Yangtze River Delta region.
The imbalance in regional economic development has led to certain differences in the energy structure between the north and south of Jiangsu. 99% of wind power and 67% of photovoltaic power generation in Jiangsu are distributed in the northern region of Jiangsu, but the electricity load in the Yangtze River Delta is mainly concentrated in the areas to the south of the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River transmission line can connect clean energy production bases and electricity load centers on both sides of the Yangtze River.
“The Fengcheng Meili 500 kV transmission and transformation project is a key power project in China"s 13th Five Year Plan. The two newly built 385-meter transmission towers are also the tallest in the world, spanning the Yangtze River with a span of 2550 meters and a total length of 178 kilometers”,Gu Mingqing, Deputy Director of the Planning Management Department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Construction Department, said.
The project is expected to increase the power transmission capacity across the the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River by 30%, with a maximum annual power transmission capacity of over 26 billion kilowatt hours and an annual emission reduction of approximately 10 million tons of carbon dioxide.
